Yay micro is a relatively recent addition to the microstock world, launched at the start of Jan 08. They added 500,000 images in their first year - quite an achievement for startups of that time.
Image subject quality is professional, and there are currently more than 2 million images to choose from, images can be purchased individually without the need to buy credits. Interestingly yaymicro have dropped their subscription offering, preferring to instead offer discount image packs which operate like the credit system on other microstock sites.
High resolution images command a price of $13 while the lowest resolution images are $1.30. Our price listed below is for the cost of one image at $6.50 - the nearest larger size to our yardstick 1200x1600 size. As stated above there are no actual 'credits' but the multiple purchase packs bring the size of the extra large images down with significant savings from $13 to less than $3.
Yaymicro selling points are simplicity and image quality, they certainly seem to deliver on this.
Preliminary Conclusion
9 sales on about 500 images last year (2011).
Currently not quite enough info for me to recommend or suggest you avoid this site. Attractive price structure for contributors, low sales for me but lots of 'Buzz'. Higher prices may attract photographers but it will not attract buyers unless something special is on offer.
As of July 2010 I'm still seeing marketing activity so yaymicro is far from being 'dead', with a tickle of sales and syndication via pixmac brining in a little more on the side.
