Our Review:

Yayimages (previously yaymicro) launched at the start of Jan 08. They added 500,000 images in their first year - quite an achievement for startups of that time.

Image subject quality is professional, and there are currently more than 10 million images to choose from, images can be purchased individually without the need to buy credits. Interestingly yaymicro have re-introduced a subscription offering after previously dropping it.

High resolution images command a price of $19.5 (single purchase) while the lowest resolution images are $1.95. Our price listed below is for the cost of one image at $5.80 - the nearest larger size to our yardstick 1200x1600 size (5 credit pack). As stated above there are no actual 'credits' but the multiple purchase packs bring the size of the extra-large images down with significant savings from $19.5 to $4 each.

Yaymicro selling points are simplicity and image quality, they certainly seem to deliver on this. Yay has floundered during recent years, but has being seeing active development since 2020.

Conclusion

Disappointingly, just handful sales for me in 2014/5, bumping Yay images out of the top 10 list. Although Yay have been trying with several restructures of subscription offerings over the past few of years, they seem to be struggling to gain market share. (seem to be losing market share!). They do offer an excellent 50% royalty on image sales

Apr 2021: Im currently looking at sales from the new relaunched yayimages.

I suggest you upload your images elsewhere for the time being.

Im not sure about this one?

Just saw this new site, nice and clean - but really who is there market ? The images are not amazing and they cost more the others sites. I think they will have a tough run getting big volume. I'm always looking for new places to buy different images at a good price, that was how i found it. It really does not grab me. sorry. From a big volume stock buyers first experience it was not great. Seems more aimed at the seller to me ? Hopefully you sellers get some sales! Best of luck, CM

I'm not sure either, hence my review recommendation not to spend time uploading if you are a typical/part-time microstocker. Prices are increasing gradually across the microstock market (but not to the level of yaymicro). I expect to see more niche microstock sites appearing - these will be able to charge a more premium microstock prices ($10-20 dollars) perhaps starting with wide subjects like food or travel, then later focusing on things like disability, specific geographic locations or passtimes etc. Currency I have no sales at yay micro, and no stats on how many views. YAY should be avoided by photographers

Arizona Desert Photo (not verified) on Tue, 2019-04-23 21:07
I had a very bad experience with YAY. I had almost 1000 images on their site for over 2 years and only had one sale. I also had over 100 images in their review query that never got reviewed. I ended up manually deleting those after waiting 6 months. Unfortunately I had no way to delete the images I had on their main website. I sent them numerous emails requesting that my account be closed and my images deleted. I got no replies. I even sent them messages through their Facebook page, but also got no replies. Their Facebook page has not been updated since 2017. I had to resort to contacting the company that hosted their website. It was when I threatened to sue them for copyright infringement that someone from YAY finally contacted me and complied with my request to close my account. Based on this experience I highly recommend that photographers should avoid signing up to YAY as contributors.
